Hector’s focus as lay missioner of La Esperanza is leading the Hispanic community in church and community programs. These programs include worship services, Sunday school, Disciple class, Alpha class, Kid's Club, praise band ministry, guitar lessons, Spanish classes, carpentry classes, parenting classes, and social services such as translation, job searching, and counseling. The praise band has traveled throughout the Kansas East Conference sharing with and witnessing to their Methodist brothers and sisters of the wonderful blessings and miracles that are happening at Mission La Esperanza.
Sharing how God is moving through his ministry, Hector shares, "One of the biggest affirmations is the purchase of our church building. The building was bought and paid for within a four month time frame. Another affirmation is that First UMC and Grace UMC were excited and ready for our arrival. Our music ministry has been a VERY effective instrument in the movement of God. Churches throughout the Kansas East Conference ask us to come and share our ministry, and we opened the 2003 Kansas East Annual Conference. Our church congregation travels to any church within the conference to cook a homemade Mexican meal and share in music and fellowship, a project we call "Fiesta Project." I believe God's mission is being carried out with La Experanza because of the successful programs and the support of the Flint Hills District and Kansas East Conference."
A native of Monterrey, Mexico, Hector worked as a carpenter for twenty years before his commissioning as a GBGM missionary. He and his wife, Sherri, have also recorded a bilingual compact disc featuring affirmative messages and songs of praise in the popular ‘cumbria’ style of Mexican music.
