Susan Brunk is a Home Missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church assigned to the Red Bird Missionary Conference. Based in Booneville, KY, she serves as a nurse at the Family Resource Youth Service Center of Owsley County.
“I do sick child assessments, [make referrals] and work to bridge barriers to learning,” Sue reports. Known to local children and youth alike as “Ms. Sue,” she says that “I know all the children and youth in the county.”
Sue also works with children and youth in the three churches of the Booneville Circuit, where her husband, Jamie, is pastor. She teaches Sunday school, leads the children's church, and assists with two youth groups. “With my husband, I assist with cross country/track, acting as assistant coach and evaluating sports injuries,” she adds.
A native of St. Joseph, MI, Sue received her BS degree in nursing from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI. Prior to her current assignment, she served as home health nurse for the Booneville Circuit Health Department; and staff nurse at the Red Bird Missionary Hospital of the Middle Fork/Stoney Fork Charge. In addition to her daily work with the center, she has served on the Red Bird Conference boards of Trustees (11 years) and Scholarships (13 years) and held multiple positions in the conference's United Methodist Women.
Sue and Jamie have two sons, Jonathan Matthew and Joseph Redmond. Her parents are Ken and Milly Childress of Indian Harbor Beach, FL (during the summer) and Hopkins, MI (in winter).
