As Coordinator of Latino Ministries for the Louisiana Conference Annual Conference, Rev. Juanita Arrieta-Ramos serves through the National Plan for Hispanic and Latino Ministries (NPHLM) with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church.
At 13 Rev. Ramos began attending a non-denominational church in Monterrey, Mexico. She became very active in the life of the church and helped and worked in different areas, especially in Christian education. At age 25 she received her call to ministry and began her seminary studies.
Rev. Arrieta-Ramos shares that listening to God’s call and responding to it was one of the best things she has done in her life. “As Christians we are called to do mission wherever we go, wherever we are. God called me long before I was aware of it.” Serving God in ministry and being educated in ministry has brought multiple blessings into her life, the life of her family and others as well.
Educated in her home country of Mexico, Rev. Arrieta-Ramos earned certification as an elementary school teacher and bilingual secretary. She then attended John Wesley Seminary and received her license in theology and her Master of Divinity from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary. Ordained in 1997, Rev. Arrieta-Ramos has served as pastor at Monson Chapel UMC, La Sagrada Familia in Goshin, IL and Hyde Park UMC in Hammon, IN. She served in two other churches in Illinois before her Monson Chapel appointment.
Juanita and husband Oscar Ramos, also a GBGM missionary with the NPHLM, are the parents of two children, Damara, age 9, and Emilio, age 7. Her home conference is the North Indiana Annual Conference.
