Suzanne Funk

Suzanne Nunn Funk is a missionary with the Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church serving as Coordinator of Community Development at Rio Colorado Technical Agricultural High School in Rio Colorado, Bolivia.

Mrs. Funk is an educator who was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised in Alabama, where, along with her husband, John, she is a member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Madison, a suburb of Huntsville in the North Alabama Annual Conference.

Suzanne recalls establishing her own distinct spiritual identity as a young adult as being an extension of her church-related family. She was involved with a local Chrysalis Community, related to the Walk to Emmaus movement, and began seeking God’s will in all aspects of her life. She received a degree in elementary education from the University of North Alabama, in Florence, and taught in schools in the Huntsville area. Suzanne has also been a counselor at US Space Camp for children and adults and been a leader in her congregation.

She and John shared a sense of call to mission and projected service “later on,” perhaps when their sons, Jonathan and Jeffrey, were out of college, which is more than a decade down the road. However, she says, “both circumstances and people were placed in our lives that made us question our delay in answering the call God made earlier. Those questions led to the realization that we had to follow the example of Noah and Abraham and go when and where God wants us, even if we don’t fully understand or see the big picture.”

In Rio Colorado, Suzanne teaches English, work with the residential students, and pursue opportunities for expanded community development projects.

”We have found that following the path that God is laying out for us to be quite exhilarating.”
