Woo Shoung Park
Rev. Woo Shoung Park is a missionary with the Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church serving in the Alaska United Methodist Conference as pastor of the Anchorage Korean United Methodist Church in Anchorage.
Rain, as he prefers to be called, sees his pastoral service with the Anchorage Korean UMC as threefold: serving the local Korean congregation and its community, providing the center of connection between the Korean immigrant and indigenous communities, and providing the pastoral leadership for spiritual nourishment and social stability.
”Being transplanted from Korea to the US was the biggest change and challenge culturally and socially,” Rain shares. ”Serving immigrant congregations has been an eye-opening experience on the unique mission settings. In addition to the new way of mission, I have now come to see the social and spiritual need of the indigenous.”
Born in Seoul, Korea, Rev. Park earned his Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Mokwon University in Taejon, Korea in 1971. Before receiving his Master of Divinity from Claremont School of Theology in Claremont, CA, Rain was ordained in the Korean Methodist Church in 1974.
Rev. Park’s home annual conference is the Pacific Northwest Annual Conference, and served the Pacific Korean UMC, Monrovia Korean UMC, and Walnut Korean UMC before entering service with the General Board of Global Ministries.
Rain is married to Sarah J. Park and they have two adult children, Julie and Daniel. Before his death, Rev. Joon Park, Rain’s brother, served as a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries in Russia.
