Rev. Laura Skiba, missionary with the Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church, was assigned in July 2004 as pastor in the Alaska United Methodist Conference to North Star United Methodist Church in Nikiski, Alaska.
“I am involved in pastoral ministry which covers a broad target of ministries from teaching and preaching to outreach and pastoral care”, Laura explains.
Laura shares one of her teaching experiences, “When I have taught Disciple Bible Study and have had people tell me that they have grown so much because of that, I knew I was helping to make a difference. That has much more to do with the Bible than the teacher!”
Native to Pennsylvania, Laura received her B.A. in Christian Ministries in 1991 from Asbury College in Wilmore, KY, and her Masters of Divinity in 1998 from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts, and her home conference is the Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference. She has worked as a Christian Education director, youth minister, children’s minister, and pastor in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts.
Laura and husband Kevin are the parents of six children: Justin, Maggie, Tyler, Sawyer, Kathryn, and Nicholas. Laura’s father and step-mother, Jim and Loraine Puleo live in Oil City, PA and attend Grace UMC.
