Four Areas of Focus
The United Methodist Church is concentrating its resources, creativity, and programs around four specific areas of focus within the church and the world. Uniting our efforts around these four related areas is critical to the church’s mission of making disciples of Christ for the transformation of the world.
The Four Areas of Focus for 2009-2012 of The United Methodist Church are:
- Engaging in Ministry with the Poor
- Stamping Out the Killer Diseases of Poverty by Improving Health Globally
- Creating New Places for New People and Renewing Existing Congregations
- Developing Principled Christian Leaders for the Church and the World
Global Ministries and the Four Areas
The four interrelated focus areas are a call to action.
Engaging the four areas of focus areas requires the active involvement of the whole church. The General Board of Global Ministries, the international mission agency of The United Methodist Church, is actively engaged in all four focus areas, both on a local and global scale. Our work actively supports personnel, projects, and mission partners in more than 120 countries.
Global Ministries invites every United Methodist to support or become actively involved in one or more of these four priority areas of church focus.
