Women's Residences
Ministries with Women, Children, and Families focuses attention-through education, networking, advocacy, and resources-on helping congregations and communities respond to the needs and concerns of women, children, and families, particularly those struggling with poverty, violence, abuse, exploitation, and other challenges.
Eight of the National Mission Institutions GBGM works with are women's residences that this office works with specifically. Those include:![]()
- Dumas Wesley Community Center in Mobile, AL
- Emma Norton Services in St. Paul, MN
- Gum Moon Residence in San Francisco, CA
- Killingsworth in Columbia, SC
- Mary Elizabeth Inn in San Francisco, CA
- Navajo United Methodist Center in Farmington, NM
- Shesler Hall in Sioux City, IA
- Susanna Wesley House in Baltimore, MD
Additionally, there are three organizations that this office works closely with:
- Faith Trust Institute-which works in the area of sexual and domestic violence
- Justice for Women Working Group (PDF file) -a working group related to the Justice and Advocacy Commission of the National Council of Churches, JWWG advocates for women in the area of justice in the Church and in society
- General Commission on the Status and Role of Women-which strives to challenge the United Methodist Church to work towards full and equal participation of women at all levels
