    06/01/2013 A veces recibo algunos correos electrónicos realmente interesantes de personas que están muy contentas de que las Mujeres Metodistas Unidas entienden los problemas de las mujeres, la niñez, la juventud y las personas marginadas. A veces son mensajes de personas que están creciendo espiritualmente a causa de algo que hemos producido o promocionado. A veces son de personas que están furiosas. Hace poco recibí una respuesta interesante cuando respondí a un mensaje de una persona muy enojada: "he pensado mucho en su respuesta en los últimos dos días. Todo lo que dice es cierto. Estoy reevaluando mi posición”. Me quedé muy sorprendida. Me hizo pensar --¿qué hacer cuando nos encontramos con algo que está en conflicto con nuestras expectativas o no coincide con nuestros valores?

En los últimos meses me ha pasado varias veces, que al terminar de escribir un artículo o un comentario en la red social Facebook, lo releo antes de publicarlo y encuentro que en realidad no he escrito realmente lo que pensaba o quería decir.

    04/01/2013 Algunas veces, durante un bautismo o una renovación de votos en la iglesia, pienso que el lenguaje que se utiliza en este pacto es sorprendente: "¿Renuncias realmente a las fuerzas espirituales de la debilidad, rechazas los poderes del mal de este mundo y te arrepientes de tus pecados?" ¡Estos no son desafíos a los que nos enfrentamos todos los días! Por ejemplo, si usted trabaja en Google y escucha constantemente el mensaje: "No seas malvado", estas promesas podrían llegar a ser triviales, pero para mí no lo son. He vivido muy de cerca la lucha para resistir al mal cuando encuentro individuos atrapados por adicciones que no reciben ninguna ayuda, o veo a mujeres que son definidas como demonios por la cultura popular, o cuando visito comunidades que están sufriendo una pobreza extrema. Pero en realidad, estas situaciones no reflejan la forma en que tomo mis decisiones diarias.

    04/01/2013 Sometimes at church during a baptism or a renewal of our vows, I find the language of this covenant startling: “Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world and repent of your sin?” Wow. Those are not challenges you hear every day! If you work at Google and hear the mantra, “Don’t be evil,” on a regular basis, these commitments could appear mundane, but they aren’t mundane for me. I’ve had a profound sense of the struggle to resist evil during encounters with individuals stuck in addictions without help, or seeing women demonized in popular culture, or when visiting communities suffering in extreme poverty. But usually, that’s not the way I see my daily choices.
