Elizabeth Calvin is executive director of the World Day of Prayer USA Committee based in New York, a worldwide ecumenical movement which brings together women of various races, cultures and faith traditions to promote greater understanding of women’s and children’s issues, followed by action. World Day of Prayer falls within the Lenten season, always on the first Friday in March. Liz’s areas of experience include advocacy for women’s and children’s international development issues, social justice and human rights advocacy, and education of the girl child.

Liz was a staff member of the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church for seventeen years in the Women’s Division ( 3 yrs AGS, M&MD) and Mission Contexts & Relationships Program area as the international women’s and children’s program staff. Current and past Board affiliations include Isis-WICCE based in Uganda, Africa Action, IFCO, Women’s Environment & Development Organization (WEDO), ECPAT-USA, Defense for Children International USA, International Women’s Tribune Center, and AFRUS-AIDS Partnership with Africa/US Women to Fight the AIDS Pandemic.
