Sarla E. Chand

Leader of "The Beauty and Courage of Sudan"

Sarla was born and raised in a Methodist home in New Delhi, India. After completing Sarla E. Chandmaster’s degree in Community Development and Extension Education, Sarla joined the faculty of Raghunath Girls Postgraduate College in Meerut, India as Head of the Home Economics Department. After five year tenure at the college, Sarla went to Cornell University in Ithaca, New York and complete her Ph.D. in Research & Evaluation for Higher Education. After a year at the United Nations, Sarla joined the General Board of Global Ministries (GBGM), the United Methodist Church as Director of Research. After working in different positions for 25 years, in 2003 Sarla took early retirement from GBGM.

Sarla has extensive experience in international program development, management, monitoring and evaluation. From 1989 - 1996, Sarla related to the mission partners in Asia Pacific, especially in India and Pakistan. She has traveled extensively throughout this region and understands the geo-political, cultural, economic and religious realities of the region.

Sarla co-authored the textbook for the mission study “Global Health and Christian
Response-ability” and was study leader both for Regional and Conference Schools of
Mission.

In 2004, Sarla joined the faculty of Anna Maria College, a Catholic co-educational liberal arts College located in Paxton, MA. At the College, Sarla serves as the Director of newly created Graduate Program in Human Services Administration as well as Director of Molly Bish Center for the Protection of Children and the Elderly.
