Dr. Thalia Matherson

Leader of "Food and Faith"

Thalia served many years with the Dallas public schools as teacher, principal and Dr. Thalia Mathersonadministrator. After early retirement, she worked as Executive Director of the South Central Jurisdiction of The United Methodist Church. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude in English and French from Huston-Tillotson College, a Master of Liberal Arts degree from Southern Methodist University, and a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University at Commerce. She is currently President of United Methodist Women of the North Texas Conference, and serves as a member of the boards of trustees of Huston-Tillotson College and Dallas Women’s Foundation among others. She is active in many community and civic organizations, is listed in Who’s Who Among American Women, and is an active member of Warren United Methodist Church. She has been elected to General and Jurisdictional conferences since 1984 (led the ‘88 lay delegation and ’92 full delegation). She is a former Director and officer of Women’s Division, and has taught in conference and regional schools of mission. Several of her publications include: The Wonder of Love; Mission Here? How? and Hope and Wholeness for Children and Youth. Dr. Matherson is married and they are the parents of an adult son.
