A Call to Prayer & Self Denial

Living Stewardship: Creating Financial Literacy

In 2013, the offering received will equip, educate and empower women and youth with financial knowledge and skills necessary to improve their financial well-being and make informed decisions.

Through prayer and generous giving to A Call to Prayer and Self-Denial offering, United Methodist Women members follow our Lord Jesus Christ in his genuine love and desire to help the marginalized by responding to the needs of women, children and youth around the world. The Call to Prayer and Self-Denial offering designated to a specific theme each year amounts to nearly one million dollars and funds national and international projects.

In 2013, the offering received will equip, educate and empower women and youth with financial knowledge and skills necessary to improve their financial well-being and make informed decisions. Greater financial literacy will build skills and knowledge among target populations in areas such as, but not limited to, personal and household financial budget planning and cash management, savings, credit access and management, formal and informal banking, safety-net planning; thereby, equipping people to better understand and manage household and personal finances to advance their economic situation.

Projects developing basic financial knowledge and skills as well as creating relevant tools and resources will be supported to empower individuals and families to improve their social and economic welfare. Programs that provide services to the socially and economically disadvantaged groups such as female-headed households, the poor, displaced populations and others are given priority.
