Breaking the Bread of Shalom With Women, Children and Youth

An Installation Service for United Methodist Women

Hymn: “For Everyone Born,” No. 34, Global Praise II

(Call the Mission Team members to be installed by name and office, and ask them to come forward and face the United Methodist Women gathering.)

Leader: (to the Mission Team) God of Shalom has called each one of you to a ministry of faith in action.

Officers: We say “Yes” to the God of Mission who trusts us and calls us to this ministry of faith in action.

Leader: (Addressing the entire congregation) Will you be a supportive community to these, your leaders in ministry?

All: With God’s help, we will.

Leader: God of grace has given you this faith legacy of almost 140 years of mission with women, children and youth.

Officers: We are inheritors of a legacy of God’s love in action for the least of these.

All: Praise be to God for all those who seeded this legacy.

Leader: Praise be to God for all those who nurtured it over the years.

Officers: Praise be to God who calls us to serve in the present age.

All: To serve God in this present age is our collective calling.

Leader: We know that there are still women, children and youth who are not at the table.

Officers: We know that there are still those who refuse to share the table of plenty with the least of these.

All: Our mission is not yet over until we restore the lost and the least to the table.

Leader: Community-making God calls you to break the bread of solidarity with the least of these women, children and youth.

Officers: We commit ourselves to breaking the bread of justice, peace and joy with the least of these.

All: We commit ourselves to breaking the bread of healing and wholeness.

Leader: Let us commit ourselves to strengthening the hands of these our officers in this mission. Freely, freely you have received. Freely, freely give.

Officers: We will go in Christ’s name, because we believe.

All: Others will know God is living in us and God is leading us. Amen.
