Pray for Peace

Stories of Peacemakers: Japan

By Dr. Renee Campbell

God of relationships that go beyond our wildest dreams, thank you for the cross-the-world relationships, the reconciliation between peoples that happens when we understand more fully the world in which we live, its powers and principalities and the ways we’re affected together by evil. Thank you for times like those in Dr. Campbell’s life where the fullness of sisterhood comes into this world.

While attending the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations through United Methodist Women, Dr. Renee Campbell, the Executive Director of Wesley House Community Services in Louisville, Kentucky, learned from international delegate Suzuyo Takazato from Japan of the years of rapes and violence imposed on the women of Okinawa, Japan, by U.S. service members. With that, she started a T-Shirt campaign to give voice and tribute to those women and their families.
