New Director from Southeast Jurisdiction Announced

The Women’s Division announced June 13 that Earlene Gladney of Memphis, Tenn., will represent the Southeast Jurisdiction on its board of directors, beginning immediately.
The Division is the national policy-making body for approximately one-million members of United Methodist Women. Directors meet twice annually for board meetings, and at many other times for committee meetings.
United Methodist Women of the Southeast Jurisdiction voted for Ms. Gladney in the Spring of 2004 as an alternate, pending a vacancy in the board of directors.
She has been involved in all levels of United Methodist Women, serving as treasurer and membership chairperson locally, as secretary of program resources in the district, as Mission Coordinator for education and interpretation at the conference level, and on the Regional School planning team for the Southeast.
With a Bachelor of Science in political science and administration, her education as served as the basis for involvement in advocacy for HIV/AIDS awareness, interfaith issues, public education, senior services, and accountability in politics.
Jan Love, chief executive of the Division, says that the Division looks forward to her contribution to the work of the Division:
“We’re delighted to have a new director who has demonstrated long-term commitment to United Methodist Women and to God’s mission with women, children and youth.”
Ms. Gladney’s nomination and acceptance came after vice president, Diane Fielder of North Alabama conference, resigned from her position in April because of professional commitments. She will serve through 2008 when jurisdictions elect new directors.
The Women’s Division represents United Methodist Women, an organization whose purpose is to foster spiritual growth, develop leaders and advocate for justice. Members raise nearly $25 million each year for programs and projects related to women, children and youth in the United States and in more than 100 countries around the world.
