United Methodist Women Say: 'Count Every Vote'
A crucial election day is only weeks away. At stake are vital political, economic and moral issues of concern to all Americans. Over the next four years the Congress, the president and the courts will consider issues such as health care, the financial crisis, the war in Iraq, jobs, immigration and the environment.
As people of faith we have an obligation to participate in the elections to ensure that our state, local and federal government policies reflect our commitment to social justice. You have an important role to play in making sure every vote counts, and that every voter can cast a ballot for justice on Election Day.
Join the Women’s Division’s challenge to achieve 100 percent voter turnout for your United Methodist Women unit, and to expand the participation of United Methodist Women in the electoral process. Use the Count Every Vote Checklist to measure your unit’s activities this electoral season. Units that complete 80 percent of the Count Every Vote Checklist actions will be recognized at the November Leadership Training Event for newly elected conference United Methodist Women officers. Participation will also count toward becoming a Mission Today Unit. Return completed checklists to the Women’s Division’s Washington Office of Public Policy, 100 Maryland Avenue, NE, suite 530, Washington, DC 20002, or fax to 202-488-5681. Send pictures of your unit members in action in the precincts, getting the word out to vote in the church or community for posting on the Women’s Division website.
