Discernment Event for Deaconesses and Home Missioners
May 2-4, 2014, Newton, Mass.
Discerning the will of God is a necessary responsibility of every Christian, and come spring, United Methodist laity will have the opportunity to explore God’s calling for their lives within the lay order of deaconess and home missioner.
A discernment event has been organized at The Walker Center in Newton, Massachusetts, May 2-4, 2014, to enable laypersons of The United Methodist Church to discern whether the deaconess or home missioner calling is for them.
Deaconesses, who are laywomen, and home missioners, who are laymen, are called by God to a full-time vocation in service with those who are marginalized and in need in the world today. This community of laity has responded to the call of God in their lives and has been commissioned by The United Methodist Church to full-time ministries of love, justice and service.
Space is limited, so please respond as soon as possible by completing the attached application. The discernment application must be submitted no later than March 28, 2014.
If you would like more information about this event or forthcoming events, or if you are interested in becoming a deaconess or home missioner, please e-mail Home Missioner Scott Vickery (firstname.lastname@example.org).
