Discernment Event for United Methodists
February 22-24, 2013, Tuscon, AZ
God is calling.
You have the opportunity to pause, listen and respond to God’s call. This February, local United Methodist laity will explore God’s invitation to become a deaconess or home missioner at a special event in Tuscon, AZ.
This discernment event, at Tuscon's St. Marks United Methodist Church from February 22-24, 2013, will allow laypersons of the United Methodist Church who are living in nearby Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and Southern California to gather and explore whether the deaconess or home missioner calling is for them.
Deaconesses, who are laywomen, and home missioners, who are laymen, are called by God to a vocation serving with those who are marginalized and in need in the world today.
This lay community responds to the call of God and is sent forth by the United Methodist Church to full-time ministries of love, justice and service.
Space is limited, so please respond as soon as possible by completing the online application or download a PDF version. Deadline for the application is January 18, 2013. Applicants will receive confirmation of their acceptance via email by January 22, 2013.
If you would like more information about this event or forthcoming events in other annual conferences, or simply to learn more about becoming a deaconess or home missioner, please email Deaconess Becky Louter at deaconess@unitedmethodistwomen.org or Home Missioner Scott Vickery at svickery@unitedmethodistwomen.org.
