Discernment Event for United Methodists
Nov. 15-17, 2013, St. Louis, MO, and Nov. 22-24, 2013, Tempe, AZ
Discernment is a life-long process, an ongoing conversation with God through which we explore how we are called to live a faithful life of Christian discipleship. This fall, United Methodist laity will have the opportunity to explore God’s call as it may relate to the Office of Deaconess and Home Missioner.
Discernment events will be held in St. Louis, Missouri, on November 15-17, 2013, and in Tempe, Arizona, on November 22-24, 2013. Our goal is to enable laypersons of The United Methodist Church to discern whether the deaconess or home missioner calling is for them. These events are held in conjunction with United Methodist Women’s Leadership Development Days*. These discernment events are open to all laity (men and women).
Deaconesses and home missioners are laywomen and laymen who are called by God to engage in full-time vocations of love, justice and service with those who are marginalized and in need in the world today. They are in a lifetime relationship with The United Methodist Church, their call affirmed through consecration and commissioning, and together form a covenant community.
Space is limited, so please respond as soon as possible by completing the online application. Deadline for the application is October 14, 2013.
If you would like more information about this event or forthcoming events, or if you are interested in becoming a deaconess or home missioner, please email Deaconess Becky Louter or Home Missioner Scott Vickery.
*The Leadership Development Days (LDD) is a weekend filled with practical, hands-on experiences, moving worship services, workshops, networking and more for United Methodist Women members newly elected to leadership positions of the organization and anyone who wants to participate.
