Discernment Event for Deaconesses and Home Missioners
Discerning the will of God is a necessary responsibility of every Christian, and come fall, United Methodist laity will have the opportunity to explore God’s calling for their lives within the lay order of deaconess and home missioner.
A discernment event has been organized in Asheville, N.C., October 28-30, 2011, to enable laypersons of The United Methodist Church who are living in the country to discern whether the deaconess or home missioner calling is for them.
Deaconesses, who are laywomen, and home missioners, who are laymen are called by God to a full-time vocation in service with those who are marginalized and in need in the world today. This community of laity has responded to the call of God in their lives and has been commissioned by The United Methodist Church to full-time ministries of love, justice and service.
Space is limited, so please respond as soon as possible by completing the application. Deadline for the application is September 15, 2011. All reasonable costs based on need, including travel within the United States, lodging and meals will be met by the Program Office of Deaconess and Home Missioner of the Women’s Division of the General Board of Global Ministries, the mission agency of The United Methodist Church.
Applicants will receive confirmation of their acceptance via email September 27, 2011.
If you would like more information about this event or forthcoming events, or if you are interested in becoming a deaconess or home missioner, please e-mail Deaconess Becky Louter (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Home Missioner Scott Vickery (email@example.com).
