Ubuntu Journey to Zimbabwe

Join United Methodist Women from the United States and travel to Zimbabwe to experience the essence of being human, because Ubuntu means “I am because of who we all are.”

“Who hears the word of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24)

Zimbabwe means “house of stone,” and United Methodist sisters will build “rock- solid” cross-cultural relationships, learning how and what we support affects women, children and youth globally.

Ubuntu Sisters will engage in the following during this journey:

• Build relationships and exchange ideas.
• Experience radical hospitality from our host families.
• Grow spiritually through worship, devotions and sharing our gifts.
• Be inspired by faithful United Methodist Women in Zimbabwe.
• Tour Methodist projects: Africa University, Old Mutare Mission, others.
• Visit the Great Zimbabwe Ruins and Victoria Falls.

Tentative Itinerary

October 2nd   Depart US
October 3rd   Harare arrival and overnight with host families
October 4th   Travel to Masvingo - Visit Great Zimbabwe, General Conference
October 9th   Travel to Mutare - Tour Africa University, Old Mutare, and other projects
October 10th  Return to host families in Harare
October 11th  Fly to Victoria Falls
October 13th  Depart Victoria Falls for flights home to US, arriving in US on 14th

Leaders

Kevin Schaner is the U.S. Team Leader for Ubuntu Zimbabwe for the United Methodist Women (UMW). A member of the Church of the Saviour in Cleveland Heights, Schaner participates in the UMW reading program and is a recipient of the UMW service pin.  With a  strong background in United Methodist Volunteers In Mission (UMVIM) through service in Zimbabwe, Ivory Coast and Liberia, Schaner was also a team member of  Ubuntu Ireland, 2012 trip.

Grace Musuka is the Hostess/Team Leader for Ubuntu Zimbabwe and a United Methodist Women (UMW) member of Chisipiti United Methodist Church in Harare. In partnership with UMW Musuka has conducted workshops for all age groups including pastor’s wives, on such critical topics as child abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, self-suffieciency and AIDS education in several African countries. Musuka is credited with the initial effort behind the Ubuntu program and hosted the pilot Ubuntu Journey to Zimbabwe.
