Celebrating 100 Years of Service

A message from Women’s Division Deputy General Secretary Harriett Jane Olson on the 100th anniversary of Gum Moon’s Women’s Residence.

Congratulations on 100 years of service in this amazing building and on the wonderful plans you are investing in to ensure that this building continues to serve! Your commitment and resourcefulness today is the perfect compliment to the founders of this remarkable institution who worked with Julia Morgan on the erection of the facility in 1911. Many lives have been touched since then and continue to be touched through the longstanding commitment and dedication of board members, staff and volunteers to provide a home for women who are seeking work, education and safety and to offer a wide range of services for low-income monolingual immigrant women and children in the San Francisco area.

I wish you well during this significant day of celebration and look forward to continuing the warm relationship of United Methodist Women and Gum Moon Women’s Residence for many years to come. Thank you for the many ways that you are in ministry to, with and for women, children and youth.

Harriett Jane Olson
Deputy General Secretary
