Radical Welcome

Believe Out Loud

We affirm our belief in the inestimable worth of each individual because we are human beings created by God and loved through and by Jesus Christ, and we affirm all persons as equally valuable in the sight of God. ... The teachings and actions of Jesus demonstrated radical inclusion of those rejected by mainstream society, we are called to renew our commitment to become faithful witnesses to the gospel, not alone to the ends of the earth, but also the depths of our common life and work.

Rachel Harvey is a deaconess of the United Methodist Church and was commissioned at the Assembly of United Methodist Women in 2010. She lives out her call through an appointment by the Northern Illinois Annual Conference to serve as the associate executive director of the Reconciling Ministries Network.

The Reconciling Ministries Network mobilizes United Methodists of all sexual orientations and gender identities to transform the church and world into the full expression of Christ's inclusive love.

Rachel grew up in a United Methodist Church with a congregation of 30. She is related to all but three of those church members. From the beginning Rachel experienced the church as her family. Reconciling Ministries Network is home for Rachel because she believes all people are a part of God's family.

Therefore, be it resolved, that The United Methodist Church dedicate itself to a ministry of Christ-like hospitality and compassion to persons of all sexual orientations, and to a vision of unity through openness to the spiritual gifts of all those who have been baptized in the Body of Jesus Christ.
