Jane Arterburn

Jane Arterburn died Thursday, September 4, 2008. A service of celebration and thanksgiving for her life was held September 8, 2008 at Park City United Methodist Church, Park City, Kentucky.

She was a director of the Women's Division and General Board of Global Ministries from 1964 to 1972. She held the office of Recording Secretary for the Women's Division from 1968 - 1972. As chairperson of the Assembly Planning Committee that was held in Houston in 1970, she is mentioned in Speaking Out in the Public Space by Peggy Billings for her defense of the Women's Division assembly program and actions.

She was president of the Louisville Conference United Methodist Women, a delegate to three General Conferences, and held various leadership positions in the annual conference. In 1999 Lindsey Wilson College, Columbia, Kentucky awarded her an honorary doctorate in recognition of her decades of leadership in the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Jane Bucher, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
