Mission Giving Plus

Designated gifts over and above basic support for mission are available as follows:

A Call to Prayer and Self-Denial

Since 1887, prayer, study and giving have been central to the observance of A Call to Prayer and Self-Denial. In each of three years of a four year cycle, gifts are divided equally between U.S. and overseas missions related to an annual theme and are awarded in grants. These grants are reported annually in Response magazine. Every 4th year funds are used for pensions and health care for retired missionaries and deaconesses for whom the Women's Division is responsible.

Mission Education

Your donation will underwrite United Methodist Women's commitment to carrying out mission through education and preparation for action and advocacy. Since the 1930s Schools of Christian Mission have provided opportunity for people to gather for study and worship, bringing personal faith together with an understanding of the world. Each year, thousands of women, men, children and youth participate in more than 60 schools across the country. Dynamic and timely spiritual growth, geographic and issue studies can lead to experiences that change lives and form disciples. Other mission education initiatives include the Ubuntu Explorers program, which enables women in the United States to partner with women around the world to experience others' lives on a short-term basis; and a Reading Program that offers thought-provoking books for reflection and discussion.
