Reconciled with God and our Neighbors

By Jennifer Youngman

Discovering a Theology of Conflict Transformation video:

Watch a video of Thomas Porter, co-author of The Journey, speak on how reconciliation with people and God are interconnected.

We have reconciliation with Jesus Christ--we are right before God.

Author and narrative theologian Fredrick Buechner says, “Forgiveness means the freedom again to be at peace inside their own skins and to be glad in each other’s presence.” This statement points to what it could be like to live a grace-filled life. What if we could tell the truth about how we have pained or been pained by others? What if we could join together with our communities and take the less-traveled walk of forgiveness and reconciliation, knowing that someday soon we’ll be at peace in our skins and glad in one another’s presence?

This is also the reconciliation we have in Jesus Christ—that we are right before God. We are comfortable in the skin that God created for us, and we are glad to be in the presence of the Triune God each day. Could you freely be at peace in your own skin? Could you be glad in the presence of a now-adversary? My prayer for you is that you will robe yourself in Christ and all that he offers so you may live a peacemaking life, free of the bitter roots of resentment.
