Social Welfare and Development of Marginalized Children and Families
Sponsoring Agency: Kapatiran Kaunlaran Foundation, Inc. (KKFI)
Purpose: KKFI, a mission of the UMC in the Philippines, is committed to work with the poor and marginalized populations of children and youth not attending school, particularly those children who live in the North Cemetery of Manila. As of 2011, 10,000 people live within the North Cemetery where families serve as caretakers of the tombs that have become their homes. Although the children usually attend public school, frequent absences due to the family’s need for income result in high drop-out rates. KKFI provides educational, medical, psychological, recreational, spiritual, family and other support services for these children and their families.
