Andris Yvonne Salter
Andris was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia where her parents still reside and are active members of Asbury United Methodist Church, her home church.
She attended the Richmond public schools, undergraduate school at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Special Education and Behavior Disorders and did graduate studies at the University of Dayton with a master’s degree in Education.
Andris has worked for the Women’s Division, General Board of Global Ministries for twenty-one (21) years, where she is responsible for working with conference organizations of United Methodist Women and the General Council on Ministries for four (4) years, as Coordinator of Strengthening the Black Church for the 21st Century. In total she has worked for The United Methodist Church for twenty-five years (25) as a laywoman. Currently she is the Assistant General Secretary for Membership and Organizational Development.
She has lead workshops on racism, financial promotion, goal setting, leadership development, Committees on Nominations and membership; taught in numerous Conference/District Schools of Christian Mission (SOCM), Regional Schools of Christian Mission; led retreats; spoken at annual meetings and other events.
Andris is a product of The United Methodist Church. She grew up in Richmond, VA, was a member of Asbury UMC where she was guided and nurtured into leadership within The United Methodist Church by faithful members.
Two of her favorite scriptures are Genesis 16:1-10 and 2 Samuel 9:1-13. Both scriptures talk about giving back to the community. Something instilled in her by her parents, grandparents, Sunday school teachers, schoolteachers and pastors.
Her gifts and graces come from the understanding that God is the creator and guide of all things in her life and without God she could do nothing. Thanks be to God.
