› Approximately 1 million IDPs and refugees have had access to UMCOR programs.

Background

Since its inception in 1996, UMCOR Azerbaijan programs have targeted the most vulnerable people, namely those who are internally displaced, institutionalized, asylum seekers and refugees. Current programs focus largely on health and relief although past programs included community development. UMCOR Azerbaijan's operations are based in the capital city of Baku.

HEALTH

Pharmaceutical Distribution

The Pharmaceutical Distribution Program, the longest-running program for UMCOR Azerbaijan, provides approximately 519,315 internally displaced persons, refugees and vulnerable citizens of Azerbaijan with access to medicines and medical supplies. In 2007, UMCOR distributed medicines, medical supplies and non-medical goods totaling $1,844,527. In addition, UMCOR provides primary health care services for persons living at 37 children's, four elderly, one home for the disabled and two correctional institutions. The program also works with community health providers who provide primary care to 65 communities.

MATERIAL RESOURCES

UMCOR distributes hygiene kits, layette kits, school kits, clothing, blankets and other goods through these programs to provide additional assistance to the most vulnerable. UMCOR Azerbaijan distributed medicines, medical supplies and non-medical goods totally $3,654,240 during 2005 and 2006.
