Hurricanes 2004, UMCOR Advance #982410
Bonnie. Frances. Ivan. Charley. Jeanne. Remember them? They were devastating hurricanes in 2004 that today no longer rate coverage on the Weather Channel. But people affected by the storms are reminded every day of their impact.
UMCOR continues a robust, long-term recovery program in affected annual conferences: Florida, Alabama, Western North Carolina, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. UMCOR is also assisting with recovery work in Haiti and Grenada.
Until recently the Federal Emergency Management Agency had labeled the 2004 Atlantic hurricane season "one of the busiest and most destructive in history." Now that record goes to the 2005 season.
Case management training in the activities that are good for recovery-family by family problem solving, assistance with design and follow-through of a family's own recovery plan-plays an important role in all the responding conferences. Rebuilding shattered lives is as important as rebuilding and re-roofing homes.
We're 100% efficient. Every dollar you give to this emergency will provide humanitarian relief and recovery only for this emergency. That's because gifts to the One Great Hour of Sharing offering covers UMCOR's costs to administer your gifts.
