Hurricanes 2005 Recovery

Hurricane Katrina made landfall in Louisiana August 29, 2005. This single storm devastated cities and towns across the Gulf states. Less than a month later on September 25, 2005, Hurricane Rita caused further damage to Western Louisiana and Eastern Texas.
The two storms scarred the coastlines of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. UMCOR has been working with the annual conferences affected by the hurricanes since before they made landfall-assisting first with preparations and then with recovery. Now, UMCOR continues to support annual conferences through resources, financing, personnel and training in their ministry of recovery for years to come.
UMCOR is well known for its success in helping disaster survivors in the long term through case management. In fact, FEMA recognized UMCOR's expertise by asking the organization to lead a consortium of nine case management agencies called Katrina Aid Today.
