Central America Emergency, UMCOR Advance #501300
Rains from Hurricanes Stan and Wilma as well as additional tropical storms in October 2005 triggered mudslides in Central America . Indigenous people groups were primarily affected as their homes and farms tend to be in the mountainous villages that were washed away. UMCOR is providing relief and support over the long term through local partners in Guatemala, Mexico, El Salvador, and Honduras.
UMCOR is working with local partners throughout the region to provide relief and long term recovery.
Mexico : UMCOR is partnering with Ecological Indigenous Federation of Chiapas (CESMACH). They are helping indigenous coffee farmers meet basic needs after the hurricane destroyed crops and washed away precious land.
El Salvador : UMCOR is supporting Action by Churches Together partners who are working in El Salvador to assist people affected by Hurricane Stan and a volcanic eruption that happened during the same week. More than 3,000 vulnerable families received immediate assistance as well as help for future recovery through community organization and healthcare.
Guatemala : UMCOR is working with Rights Action and Children International who provided emergency relief in the form of clothing, food, water, and shelter.
Nicaragua : UMCOR is helping purchase food and blankets that will be distributed by Concilio Nacional de Evangelicas de Nicaragua in towns affected by Hurricane Stan.
We're 100% efficient. Every dollar you give to this emergency will provide humanitarian relief and recovery only for this emergency. That's because gifts to the One Great Hour of Sharing offering covers UMCOR's costs to administer your gifts.
