UMCOR Responds to Florida Storm

NEW YORK, August 23, 2008—Tropical Storm Fay hit the Fla. Panhandle for the fourth time since Monday. According to the AP this is the first time in recorded history that a tropical storm made landfall in the state four different times. With high winds and unprecedented rainfall, Tropical Storm Fay is causing flooding, roof damage and many residents are without electricity.

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is working closely with the Florida Conference. An emergency grant is on its way and early response teams are on the ground in Glades County. As individual situations are assessed, teams will respond in other areas as they become accessible.

Flood buckets are always needed. Congregations and individuals are urged to
send completed buckets, bulk materials or a contribution to purchase
supplies. A list of the contents can be found here. To support the
recovery efforts with a financial contribution, please give to UMCOR Advance
