Worship Resources Celebrate New Life in One Great Hour of Sharing
NEW YORK, NY, March 2, 2007—A "Litany of New Life" is the centerpiece for worship resources provided by UMCOR to help local congregations celebrate the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering March 18.
The litany can be used to dedicate the gifts received in the offering. The humanitarian arm of the United Methodist Church is the recipient of offering proceeds, and uses them to fund its costs of doing business.
Scripture for this year's offering is from 2 Corinthians 5:17b, "See, everything has become new." The theme suggests that everything changes with the hope represented by Christ, said the Rev. R. Randy Day, general secretary of Global Ministries and UMCOR. "With God's help we are there for other, not only in this special hour but in all our hours," he said.
UMCOR receives no World Service or church apportionments, so the One Great Hour of Sharing offering is critical for the agency's ability to respond to human need.
One Great Hour of Sharing resources, such as the litany, lectionary readings, a call to awareness, and suggested hymns are available online.
