US: FLOOD RESPONSE
Devastating spring floods have swept across the US from Alaska to Mississippi to Vermont, causing damage to homes, crops, and livestock. Major floods have resulted from high waters in the Mississippi River, Red River, and Lake Champlain. In some areas, floodwaters are not expected to recede for another month or more.
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is supporting 13 affected annual conferences by providing training, funds, and supplies such as cleaning buckets. Cleaning buckets can be sent to any of the depots in the UMCOR Relief-Supply Network.
While UMCOR is working to respond to a multitude of needs resulting from this spring’s record-breaking floods and tornadoes, funding for US Disaster Response, specifically the 2011 Spring Storms Emergency Advance, remains very low.
Please give generously to provide for those who are experiencing overwhelming needs this year. Your gift to US 2011 Spring Storms, UMCOR Advance #3021326, will help storm survivors recover.
HAITI: CHOLERA RESPONSE IN MOLIERE
The cholera epidemic in Haiti continues to sicken thousands each day. The community of Moliere, located southwest of Port-au-Prince, is no exception. Ten parents of students at the Methodist school there have died in the most recent outbreak.
Moliere recently received some help in containing the epidemic with a supply of UMCOR health kits, soap, and measuring spoons to properly prepare oral rehydration salts, a combination of simple ingredients that can be lifesaving for those stricken with cholera.
Although information about Haiti has long faded from the evening news, the struggle to recover continues. UMCOR Haiti is working daily to alleviate suffering and foster long-term solutions in the communities it serves.

GLOBAL: WORLD REFUGEE DAY IS JUNE 20
“By welcoming strangers, we entertain angels unawares,” said the Rev. Barry Petrucci of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Portage, Mich. The church has been helping refugees for 15 years.
“Refugee resettlement reminds us of our common humanity,” Petrucci continued. “Some are in a position of being helpful, and others of needing help. We are in a web of mutual blessing.”

ZIMBABWE: CLEAN WATER IN NYADIRE
UMCOR is working to rehabilitate the water system in Nyadire, Zimbabwe, to improve the overall health status of the entire area.
The rehabilitated system will provide clean and safe water to the Nyadire Mission as well as surrounding communities. This is particularly important for these cholera-prone communities. This project also provides education about waterborne diseases and healthy hygiene and sanitation practices.
The water rehabilitation project in Nyadire is taking place in several phases. UMCOR, Free Church Federation in Finland/UMC, and the Nyadire Connection are supporting this project in close coordination with the United Methodist Church in Zimbabwe.
To support water projects in close coordination with the United Methodist Church in Zimbabwe and elsewhere in the world give to Global Water & Sanitation, UMCOR Advance #3020600.
You can also help the people of Zimbabwe confront issues related to hunger and development with your gift to Zimbabwe Emergency, UMCOR Advance #199456.
