UMCOR responded with emergency grants to help restore basic services to several annual conferences affected by the fierce mid-December ice storm that struck the Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri states.

UMCOR is assisting the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Annual Conference, Oklahoma Annual Conference as well as the Kansas East Annual Conference with the immediate basic needs until electrical power is restored and a sense of normalcy is gained. The ice storm froze several structures and knocked out electrical power for some 640,000 people.

All 77 counties in Oklahoma were declared disaster areas and local officials have stated that this was the worst natural disaster to hit the state in years. Please help by giving to Domestic Disaster Response, UMCOR Advance #901670. Online Giving

UMCOR is helping Action by Churches Together and its partner International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) with the distribution of food and hygiene kits to 2,910 Iraqi refugees in Iraq and Syria for three months. More than two million Iraqis have fled Bagdad and neighboring countries seeking refuge from the escalating sectarian conflict.

Priority distribution of essential food and health kits will be given to families with one or more members that are physically disadvantaged, single-headed households, the elderly and families with eight or more members.

Iraqi refugees live on few resources—prices for rent and daily food have gone up and water resources have become scarce. Also, the lack of security on the streets has prevented many from moving about freely to obtain needed resources. Please help meet the basic and immediate needs for these families by giving to Middle East Emergency, UMCOR Advance #601740. Online Giving

Happy faces, smiles and hundreds of raised cheerful voices filled a room in Georgia when children saw the arrival of school kits, health kits and sewing kits donated by UMCOR last September. "Thank you UMCOR for this beautiful day", were the most frequently heard words in the Collective Center. The Center, is home for internally displaced adults and children from Abkhazia—of which 55 children are disabled.

Here in this run-down building that lacks the elementary-required living conditions—warmth and attention—UMCOR brought hope. In an event to support displaced disabled children, UMCOR distributed the much-needed supplies to 300 vulnerable children.

"Today UMCOR has made them feel that they are needed, loved and protected by others," says Nana Chaligava, director of The Fund to Support Disabled IDP Children. Please continue to support programs like these by giving to Georgia Emergency, UMCOR Advance # 250305.Online Giving
