KANSAS: TORNADO RECOVERY

UMCOR is assisting the people of Greensburg, Kan., to respond to the violent tornado that wiped out much of the town on Friday, May 4. UMCOR has issued an emergency grant to the Kansas West Annual Conference to help with any initial needs. Additionally, UMCOR disaster consultant Cherri Baer is in Kansas to provide on site support to conference staff as they make their initial assessments and determine their next steps in recovery.

Please lift up this town in your prayers. You can give to Midwest Tornado Emergencies, UMCOR Advance #901680. UMCOR is now using this advance to better accommodate the generous response of United Methodists to this emergency. Online Giving

SIERRA LEONE: IMPROVING SCHOOLS

UMCOR is helping United Methodists in Sierra Leone to provide a solid education to children there by helping to construct the Tbongo Primary School. UMCOR is helping to provide construction materials to finish building classrooms and other needed buildings on the school campus. Providing young children with a good learning environment will help them stay in school and look forward to a brighter future.

Your gifts to International Disaster Response, UMCOR Advance #982450, help UMCOR respond to needs such as this school in Tbongo and other needs around the world. Online Giving

SAGER BROWN: TOP NEEDS

Sager Brown, UMCOR’s relief supply depot, is running low on kits of all kinds. Health kits, school kits, layette kits, bedding kits, and sewing kits are all needed. Sager Brown ships kits to places of need in the US and overseas throughout the year. A constant supply of these items is needed to meet demands. Please consider sending completed kits, kit supplies in bulk, or giving towards the purchase of kit materials through UMCOR Advance #901440, Material Resource Ministry.Online Giving

DRC: BUILDING CAPACITY

A groundbreaking conference between the episcopal areas of the United Methodist Church in the Democratic Republic of Congo and UMCOR forged the beginning of an ongoing relationship of learning and increased capacity for development. UMCOR staff shared their skills with church development workers to enable them to better meet the development needs of their own communities.

The conference culminated in participants identifying a critical project for their area and writing a proposal for the new program. Plans for follow-up and future conferences are already in the works. Read more about this event in Building Capacity and Communities in DRC.

You can support UMCOR’s work in the Democratic Republic of Congo by giving to DRC Emergency, UMCOR Advance #198400. Online Giving
