The Virginia Annual Conference is reaching out to the Virginia Tech community to provide comfort, healing and hope for the days ahead. In addition to an UMCOR-sponsored television ad that offers a message of hope to those affected, the Virginia Annual Conference is providing a myriad of resources for pastors and lay people facing this unimaginable tragedy that occurred April 16 on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Va. Resources include prayers and litanies that can be used in special worship services to practical guides for identifying and dealing with trauma. You can find out more at the Virginia Annual Conference website.

UMCOR supported the Virginia Annual conference with funds from Domestic Disaster Response, UMCOR Advance #901670. Your gifts to this advance help UMCOR to respond immediately when there is a need. Online Giving

UMCOR's partner Equal Exchange reaches out to small coffee farmers, like the 1,073 members of Farmers' Hands in Guatemala. Most of these farmers own less than 2.5 acres each and were unable to compete in the coffee market alone. Each year they struggled just to survive. These farmers formed seven cooperatives and through Farmers' Hands they have better market alternatives and can sell their coffee for a fair price.

Buying fairly traded goods such as coffee, tea, chocolate and hot cocoa through Equal Exchange ensures that the farmers that produced these goods benefit from the sale. Learn more about fair trade on the UMCOR's Fair Trade web page. World Fair Trade Day is coming up on May 12. Use this as an opportunity to learn more about fair trade to support small farmer co-ops and what your church and community can do to help these farmers who make the products you enjoy.

Your gifts to UMCOR Advance #982920 Hunger/Poverty, support UMCOR's efforts to end Hunger and Poverty and to build up programs such as fair trade.Online Giving

"Water is life here," said one UMCOR worker of the importance of UMCOR's water projects in South Darfur, Sudan. UMCOR is rehabilitating water points that have been rendered unusable for a variety of reasons. In the next few years, some 250,000 Sudanese will have better access to water and sanitation through UMCOR's projects.

Access to water has become increasingly important in areas where tens of thousands of people have fled seeking safety, taxing the already fragile water system in now-overpopulated areas.

Learn more about what UMCOR is doing to increase access to water and other UMCOR programs in Darfur through our latest report to donors, Water for Life in Sudan.

You can support this important work in Sudan by giving to Sudan Emergency, UMCOR Advance #184385. Online Giving
