Heavy rains since early January have caused severe flooding in northern Mozambique. Many have lost their homes and crops to the floods. Disease and hunger are plaguing survivors even as more rain is forecasted.

UMCOR is supporting two efforts to provide relief to thousands of survivors through Action by Churches Together partners already working in the area. They are providing shelter, blankets and other needed items to some 8,000 families. UMCOR is also working with the United Methodist Church in Mozambique to support their work to alleviate the suffering of survivors. Please give to provide relief for flood survivors through Mozambique Emergency, UMCOR Advance #156500.Online Giving

One Great Hour of Sharing is your opportunity to ensure that UMCOR can meet its costs of doing business. A generous response to this special offering March 18 means we can keep our promise that designated donations--gifts that buy so much hope in a troubled world--will go entirely to specific causes. Please give! It's not too late to order materials. Download UMCOR's Church Bulletin Insert for this special offering. You can order additional offering materials online or call toll free, 1-888-346-3862. But don't wait! And thank you for your partnership.

UMCOR is helping the North Katanga Conference in the Democratic Republic of Congo battle a cholera epidemic caused by flooding along the Congo River. Many people have already died from the disease and it is spreading to new communities. The North Katanga Conference staff is implementing a plan to treat the sick and prevent this deadly disease from spreading further. When you give to International Disaster Response, UMCOR Advance #982450, you help UMCOR respond to this and many other disasters worldwide.Online Giving

As the hurricane recovery process marches forward in Mississippi, needs are beginning to change.  Most of the homes United Methodists are working on have been mucked out and gutted.  It’s a labor-intensive job that required volunteers to strip homes of everything that was damaged in the hurricane.  Now it’s time to repair those homes.  There’s a great need for volunteers with specific construction skills like electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.

This doesn't mean that people without these skills aren't needed! The Mississippi Annual Conference wants to ensure that volunteer teams that come bring one skilled volunteer for every four general volunteers. This helps keep projects moving forward when teams bring volunteers with construction experience to help those who do not. Keep coming to help! Every hand is needed in Mississippi, Louisiana and throughout the region. Learn more about volunteering on UMCOR's Volunteer Page.
