LIBERIA: HELP FOR RETURNING REFUGEES

Refugees returning after years away during Liberia's war need assisntace to restore their homes, crops, and livelihoods. UMCOR is helping people returning to Liberia's Gompa District in a very tangible way by sending health kits, school kits, and donations for food supplies. These items will help meet some of their most basic needs and help them begin the road to recovery.

You can help people in this and similar situations around the world by giving to Liberia Emergency, UMCOR Advance #150300. Online Giving

AFRICA: FARMERS HELPING FARMERS

There are now 17 more trainers and resource people for UMCOR's innovative Farmer to Farmer Field School. The program helps farmers in five African countries learn new growing techniques and new crops from other farmers. At the beginning of September, 17 farmer-trainers spent two weeks in Hohoe, Ghana to learn how to teach farmers in their home countries ways to improve their farms.

The Farmer to Farmer Field School takes place over an entire growing season in which the farmers plant various test fields to learn what growing techniques work best. The students are also empowered to teach others what they learned so the program's reach is multiplied.

You can be a part of this unique program by giving to Sustainable Agriculture and Development, UMCOR Advance #982188. Online Giving

PHILIPPINES: TYPHOON RECOVERY

UMCOR is helping the United Methodist Church in the Philippines during their recovery efforts following Typhoon Milenyo. The storm tore through the archipelago the last week of September. UMCOR is supporting two different projects that help those left most vulnerable by the typhoon. Mary Johnston Hospital is a United Methodist hospital that serves a slum area of Manila. It is the only hospital in this area and the typhoon heavily damaged the structure limiting the services it could provide to this community that was already in great need. UMCOR is providing resources to repair and restore the hospital so it can continue to serve those in need.

UMCOR is also working with the United Methodist Church in the Philippines to give direct assistance to survivors in Quezon Province. Through this project, more than 2,000 families in significant need following the storm are receiving food, shelter, clothing, medical care and other essentials to help them recover.
