A major earthquake rocked this highly populated area on May 27, killing more than 5,000 and leaving approximately 200,000 people homeless. Through ACT International, an international disaster response coalition, UMCOR is supporting the efforts of local organizations and Church World Service that are assisting more than 30,000 survivors. They are providing shelter, water, health services, psychosocial assistance, and advocacy. Your gifts to UMCOR Advance #217400, Indonesia Emergency, support these efforts. ![]()
PHILIPPINES: HELPING LANDSLIDE SURVIVORS
UMCOR is providing relief to 800 families who lost their homes in the February mudslide that buried an entire village in Southern Leyte Province of the Philippines through local partners. The National Council of Churches in the Philippines is helping 800 displaced families who are still living in evacuation centers, awaiting resettlement. The families receive food, clothing, household items, as well as medical assistance through this effort. UMCOR continues to support their work to provide relief for these families as they await resettlement.

WORLDWIDE: LIVING WITH AIDS FOR 25 YEARS
The first case of AIDS was diagnosed on June 5, 1981. Little did we know that this disease was about to claim millions of lives, wipe out entire communities, and affect life on every continent. United Methodists have been involved in AIDS ministry since the early days of this disease. This commitment continues. The United Methodist Global AIDS Fund supports education, prevention, care and treatment programs for people living with HIV/AIDS. The Fund, initiated in 2004, signifies a commitment on behalf of every United Methodist with a goal to raise one dollar for every member, or $8 million by 2008 to support AIDS prevention and care. Please do your part and give to UMCOR Advance #982345, Global AIDS Fund. ![]()
