$200 Protect the Environment

Anna Sentana lives in the town of Carmelita, Guatemala where she and her community rely on the harvesting, processing, and selling of palms for their livelihood. Much of what Anna's community harvests will eventually be used in churches across the US for Palm Sunday celebrations. Though US palm sales total more than $4.5 million every year, harvesting communities like Anna's rarely share in this bounty.

UMCOR and the University of Minnesota are building support in the US for the Eco-Palm Project that will help harvesters like Anna earn a fair income while sustaining forestry, protecting local jobs and preserving livelihoods.

Your gift of $200 can support sustainable agricultural projects like eco-palms, which help protect the environment.

$250 Buy a Beekeeping Kit

Beekeeping training is one of UMCOR’s Sustainable Agriculture & Development Programs in Liberia that is helping farmers improve their livelihood, build new homes and provide education for their children.

Your gift of $250 can cover the cost of supplying one beekeeping kit for a farmer completing UMCOR’s beekeeping training. The kits includes materials to build one bee hive, provide a protective bee suit, a pair of gloves, one pair of boots, a bucket to collect honey combs, and a hand-held smoker, which farmers use to calm bees while harvesting honey.

Help a farmer get started in the honey making business.

$275 Send a Farmer to Field School

Send a farmer to UMCOR’s Integrated Crop and Pest Management-Farmer Field School. During this 18-week training, farmers learn new techniques on how to best manage their farm by using locally-available products and organic methods to produce healthy crops.

Your gift of $275 covers the cost of one 18-week training for one farmer.

$300 Grow Moringa Trees

Survivor is a four-year old boy who was extremely underweight because of malnutrition. He arrived at Hope for the Nations, a feeding center in Ganta, Liberia, at the point of death. Thankfully, a diet rich in Moringa helped to bring him back to good health.

Leaves from the Moringa tree are a highly nutritious supplement aiding those who do not have adequate food supplies in developing countries. Moringa leaves are sold for use in tea and Moringa leaf powder is used as a nutritious food additive that aids in overcoming malnutrition. Farmers in Ghana, Liberia, Sierre Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo benefit from the additional income that Moringa can bring.

Your gift of $300 can furnish a kilo of Moringa seeds that help improve the health and livelihood of farmers. Each seed produces one Moringa tree.

The above gifts ($200-$300) are directed to the
