$8 to $100 Relief in Time of Need

UMCOR’s relief supply kits help bring relief to the most vulnerable people in their time of need. The costs listed are the approximate cost for each kit. Giving to Material Resources will help UMCOR purchase the needed supplies for each kit.

$8 Birthing Kit
In developing countries, an estimated 60 million women give birth with the help an untrained birth attendant or family member. Newborns can develop a tetanus infection, the leading cause of infant mortality. A birthing kit supplies the basic, sanitary tools for a safe delivery.

$11 School Kit
In some countries like Zimbabwe, children do not have access to basic school supplies. This year, UMCOR, in coordination with the United Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, distributed school kits to over 400 children in rural Mutumbami, a remote region in eastern Zimbabwe. The children cheered when they received their pencils.

$12 Health Kit
Health kits provide basic necessities to people who have been forced to leave their homes because of human conflict or natural disaster.

$18 Sewing Kit
In Sri Lanka, UMCOR is helping a group of young women who were not able to go to school because they were forced to be soldiers. A sewing machine, training in clothes-making and business skills are giving these women new found independence and valuable income-generating skills.

$35 Layette Kit
Many women do not have swaddling clothes with which to welcome their child into the world. Layette kits provide basic supplies for their baby's needs.

$50 Bedding Kit
In places like Khak-e-Jabar, a rural and isolated region of Afghanistan, families can experience temperatures well below freezing. Children and the elderly die as a result of cold weather or lack of access to adequate food. This year, UMCOR Afghanistan distributed warm winter blankets to nearly 4,000 families in the Khak-e-Jabar.

$55 Cleaning Bucket
These supplies enable people to begin the overwhelming job of cleaning up after a flood, hurricane, fire, or other damaging event.

$100 Bulk Materials
The material resources program is always happy to receive kits and cleaning buckets fully assembled with all required items. However, the Relief Supply Depots can also use large quantities of bulk items.

$150 Help Ship Emergency Relief Supplies

Help UMCOR cover the cost of containers and shipping emergency supplies to those in need. Shipping supplies can include medical supplies to Georgia, school supplies to Zimbabwe, or food to the Democratic Republic of Congo. It costs on average $6,700 to ship a 40-foot container of goods from the Sager Brown Depot to its final destination overseas.
