Immigration and Refugees
$250 Keep Families Together
Today, countless families and children are in mixed immigration status households. Many children are in danger of being deprived of their parents and a secure life in the US—the country of their birth. Justice for Our Neighbors helps keep families together and ensures that children are able to remain with their parents.
JFON provides free, professional legal services to immigrants in monthly clinics. This UMCOR program connects a national network of church-based, volunteer-led immigration clinics to asylum seekers and immigrants who need a helping hand to navigate the maze of rules and laws that affect their lives in the US.
Your gift of $250 can help with the cost of legal work through JFON clinics nationwide. Help immigrant families in need of assistance get good legal counsel and support.
$500 Emergency Housing
When refugees resettle in the US, UMCOR partner Church World Service and its affiliates work to ensure that arriving families have the basic necessities such as a safe place to live, food on the table, help with registering children in school, and help finding a job.
The US government expects 75 percent of refugees residing in the US for six months will have found employment and be able care for their families on their own. In past years, in many places, the percentage was much higher than 75 percent. But, because of the weakening US economy, only 68 percent of refugees found employment within six months in 2008.
Your gift of $500 will go toward paying a month's rent for one refugee family, and help tide them over until they find permanent employment.
