Thomas P. Dwyer

Executive Director, UMCOR NGO

As executive director for UMCOR’s Non-Governmental Organization, Thomas Dwyer oversees UMCOR’s overseas offices. Field offices serve communities recovering from war and natural disaster, through transitional development and relief programs such as reconstruction, peace building, education, health and income generation.

Thomas began his work with UMCOR in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the early part of his international development career. "I came in to UMCOR NGO at the ground level and grew to truly appreciate the passion and commitment of those I worked with at UMCOR," said Mr. Dwyer of his beginnings with the organization.

"One of my life goals is to bring people together to respond to need and work toward eradicating extreme poverty," said Dwyer of his work. "The motivation and compassion that drives my work stems from my faith."

Mr. Dwyer has also worked at the UMCOR NGO headquarters. During his time as director of the NGO his leadership was critical to the coordinated establishment of five field offices—four of which are still in operation.

Mr. Dwyer draws extensively upon his 19 years of combined professional experience in the financial services sector, social entrepreneurship and international development.

Mr. Dwyer has an MA in International and Intercultural Management from the School for International Training, Brattleboro, VT.
