My Uncle Jimmy

James C. Voshika

Written by Michaela Weir, 3rd Grade

My uncle Jimmy made a big difference in my life. He was a gay man and he had AIDS. He was kind and he brought me to Disney World and the Wisconsin Dells. He always was nice to me and never yelled at me. Then on January 7th, [1993], 5 days before my birthday, he died. He lived for about 7 years [after diagnosis with HIV]. All his life he didn't worry if he was going to die. The next day he just enjoyed the time he had.

Two weeks before he died, he got to play and hold my two new cousins that were born. They weren't brother and sister. They were babies from two different uncles. I thought that was pridy good. The sad thing, I mean it was all sad, but the worst thing was he died two weeks later.
