Healthcare in Africa
UMCOR is partnering with the Mozambique Annual Conference's Center of Hope program and the Government of Mozambique to distribute 100,000 long-lasting, insecticide-treated mosquito nets to vulnerable families this spring.
Using these nets to protect sleeping children and pregnant women is the number one action families can take to prevent malaria--a deadly but preventable disease. According to the National Malaria Control Program, it is estimated that 36,000 children under the age of five die from malaria each year in Mozambique, which is about one child every 15 minutes.
UMCOR is working with the annual conference to coordinate the net distribution, which will also include educational activities on malaria prevention and on the proper use of the mosquito net. The government of Mozambique is supplying the nets for the May 14 distribution.
World Malaria Day is April 25. Learn more about how you can support malaria-fighting efforts such as this net distribution in Mozambique.
