Advocate of the Month

Erin Campbell"What I found were families trying to rise above the stigma of disabilities," said Erin Campbell, Youth Director at St. John's United Methodist Church in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Campbell was making a personal mission trip to India, where she saw the work of the Opportunity School for Mentally Challenged Children, Project #3020555. Campbell returned to St. John's after three weeks in India, but her thoughts and prayers are still with the students at Opportunity School. Her outstanding support for those students makes her Global Ministries' Advocate of the Month for March.

Campbell was engaged with the students and their families. "Opportunity School is not an orphanage," Campbell said. She added, "Much of the work at the school is for the family, as well as the student." As her trip coincided with Indian Independence Day, she decided to hold an art competition. The entries were outstanding. Campbell selected 12 of the best works and featured them on calendars, which she sold, giving the proceeds to support Opportunity School.

St. John's UMC has responded enthusiastically. Campbell said: "It hasn't been just the youth. The whole church has jumped in, buying and selling calendars and offering their own support." Plans are already under way to continue the calendar project in the future. For her dedication to mission, Global Ministries thanks and congratulates Erin Campbell, Advocate of the Month!
