Missionaries in the US and Around the World

Sonya LunaSonya Luna, Missionary, National Plan for Hispanic and Latino Ministry

Sonya Luna is a Global Ministries missionary who serves through the National Plan for Hispanic and Latino Ministries in the Detroit Annual Conference.

She coordinates conference events and training for the Hispanic/Latino ministries, such as the Annual Hispanic/Latino Ministries Celebration, and the Spanish-Language Lay Speaking Classes. This past summer, the Detroit Annual Conference held the first Spanish-Language Lay Speaking class. Sonya worked to coordinate this effort, which has opened the door for more Spanish-language classes like Certificated Lay Speaking and Advanced Lay Speaking.

Sonya is also Chairperson of the local Justice For Our Neighbors. She helps to coordinate and facilitate workshops and classes about faith and immigration. "For immigrant families that are far away from their home countries and their families, churches can be a family and a place for refuge for them," writes Sonya. "I pray that churches continue to open their doors to the immigrant community."
