Phakamisa – South Africa Project
Phakamisa is a Zulu word meaning "to lift up and support." This ministry and Advance project does that for some 15,000 children in South Africa every day through programs that include preschool-teacher training for women, caregiver support, HIV/AIDS support groups, gardening and nutrition programs as well as livelihood-training programs.
Phakamisa began during the apartheid era. It taught unskilled women to be preschool teachers--providing income for the women and a safe place for young children. Today, Phakamisa has a variety of programs that meet a range of educational, spiritual, emotional, and physical needs in areas where resources are limited or non-existent.
You can support this program by purchasing some of the handcraft items made by its beneficiaries at www.phakamisa.org. You can also provide support for this important ministry by giving to Phakamisa, Advance #14154A.
